Protect Medicaid Dental

Stand up for low-income seniors, veterans and kids by preserving Michigan’s adult dental and kindergarten oral health screenings.

Michigan’s Medicaid adult dental program and kindergarten oral health screenings provide access to affordable, quality dental care for low-income adults, seniors, veterans and kids across Michigan.

Right now, some lawmakers are considering cuts and changes to these programs. If that happens, hundreds of thousands of people could lose access to the dental care they need to stay healthy.

We need to speak up now to protect these programs. Contact your legislator today and tell them to keep dental care for low-income seniors, veterans, and kids.

Michigan’s Adult Dental Program

Michigan’s adult dental program helps low-income adults, including seniors and veterans, get quality dental care.

Right now, some lawmakers are talking about cutting costs by removing certain treatments, including:

  • deep cleanings
  • root canals
  • sealants
  • healthy gum care, and
  • crowns.

These cuts would harm the health of many people in Michigan. Without these services, it will be harder for people to get the dental care they need. This could also hurt our workforce because people with poor oral health may have trouble getting or keeping a job.

Studies show that when people can’t get regular dental care, their overall health gets worse. They are more likely to have serious problems like infections, abscesses, and even cancer.

Michigan’s Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment Program

The Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) Program helps find and treat dental problems in children starting school.

Since October 2024, the program has screened nearly 24,000 children. One in four of them needed more dental care after their school screening.

Some Michigan lawmakers want to cut the program’s funding during budget talks. If this happens, more kids will have untreated tooth decay and dental infections. This can mean more missed school days, higher healthcare costs for families, and harder learning for children.

Contact your legislator TODAY and urge them to protect these programs from cuts and attacks from health plans seeking to make a profit.

“Hello, my name is [NAME] from [CITY, TOWN]. I am calling to encourage you to protect Michigan’s Medicaid adult dental program and kindergarten oral health screenings from cuts. Cutting or changing these programs will harm the health of many Michiganders. It will also greatly reduce access to dental care for low-income seniors, veterans, and kids. Please vote NO on any plan that weakens these programs.”
